Challenge Brief:
A Bug's Life
Guidelines:
Submit 3 photos of bugs*- they may be of the same bug from different angles, or 3 different bugs.
These may be tweaked
they must have some color in them- so no B/W (can have select color**) or sepia
*A bug is anything with more than 4 legs that is in the insect world, an arachnid, or any kind of creepy-crawly thing.
**Select color is a b/w photograph with portions of it in color

Buzzing Bees. Wiggly Worms. Spotless Ladybugs. Curious Red Beetles. Pesky Flies. Butterflies Butterflies Everywhere!
Well, for this week's challenge I wasn't that jazzed about it to start with. I don't know why exactly, but I just felt like I wouldn't be able to get anything good, all before I had even gone out and tried. Plus I really don't like bugs in general!!! My family and close friends will probably have a good laugh about this one......they know how much I hate bugs and I have a tendency to flip out in their presence. I also felt like I already took a bunch of bug photos during the 21 Signs of Spring Challenge a couple week's ago and figured that I wouldn't be able to get anything new that would be worth posting. But, I decided to go out for a walk and and do some buggy hunting anyway, if nothing else to just see what I came across. Well by golly I am glad I did!!! I am so excited about some of these pictures. Stoked, would actually be the more appropriate word. :) I also took a bunch of B&W's that I posted yesterday if you would like to see those then please click here.
So the first five are my entries, the rest are just a bonus. Comment however you want, on your favorites, on the collection as a whole, whatever!

Absolutely fabulous photos! Actually makes me think that I might like bugs after viewing these. They seem so friendly with the beautiful backgrounds.

ReplyDeleteThe first one is great and I love the difference between the diagonal line that the bugger is climbing on and the ones in the background, but I would've picked 6 or 8 as stronger pictures.
5 is my favorite of all from your series and #6 is my favorite of all of the pictures.
I like the shapes in the second one. It's a big ole round bee on a big ole round flower.
Good capture on the 5th with the open wings. I like the other interesting wavy lines that the plants create.

I think that the fear/stoked factor of this challenge comes from the inate need to be grounded. Bugs ect. are grounding. Just follow the conflicting feelings and you will find yourself digging in the earth, getting dirty, nurturing seedlings, and "growing" as a person. The closer we get to the "earth" the closer we come to ourselves and others.

These are so great! I am amazed at how you could get the bugs in focus so well, and with such a shallow depth of field! I had issues with this with my bumblebee photo--I must have taken 30 pictures just to get a couple that were in focus... You also have very interesting bugs where you live! I can't pic a favorite--I like them all :)
ReplyDeleteYou have many amazing bug photos. My fav is the one with the red bug upside down on the leaf. The lines of the leaves as well as how the red bug pops out at you is just stunning. A close second is the reddish bug in the purple flower because of the colors.
