Weekly Photography Challenge (candid portraits)

Challenge Brief:

This challenge is from Katie.

Since it is Holy week, and many of us are out of town and busy with the Easter Holiday, Katie thought it would be nice to have this due the Friday after Easter (April 17th)

Take the opportunity of having friends and family gatherings to take candid photographs (pictures/portraits of people in a natural state- not looking directly at camera)

Enter 3-5 of your favorite candids, color or black and white, no tweaking. There may be as many people in each photo as you'd like.

Remember, this is due 2 weeks from now, April 17th.

I'm call'n this one: Husby...Mac'n & Snack'n

No family or friend get togethers for me, so I decided to take all three of the same subject...Husby!  Hope you enjoy!

  1. I want a bite of that apple Wesley Poo...please save some from me. Wes is creeping me out a bit in the ghostly looking multiple face one. The second one looks most how I have seen Wes most often...enamored with his phone. Great subject...also love love the title! Wes is such a mac'er!

  3. In picture #1 Wesley doesn't seem as "focused" as I recall him to be. LOL Wondering if pictures #1 & #3 were intentional or accidental with the bite out of the apple on the front of the Mac and Wesley taking a bite of an apple? He does both frequently. Very Cool! K4

  5. Oh my gosh! I never would have caught the apple thing! Thanks everyone. Very cool Erin. I like how you think out your photographs.

I have to say that the first image creeps me out a little as well. I'm glad to see that you're experimenting with long exposures though.

I enjoy the composition of the second and third image very much. In the second picture you left some very interesting negative spaces...I like that this one is black and white.

#3 is my favorite out of these three! The colours are great, I love how your husband's skin takes on a nice warm hue which contrasts really well with the green of the apple. I'm not sure if it was intentional, but the little swatch of shirt in the image adds enough green to kind of balance out how bright the apple is. I also love the expression on his face, it makes eating an apple look a little less like an ordinary activity.

My hubby gets so uncomfortable when I take pictures of him...is yours the same way? He seemed not to be bothered by it in these images.

  6. Nice!! I like the third one best--I like how his face is a bit scrunched when he is taking a big bite. You captured it at just the right moment!

  7. Great set, Erin! I think that the last image is my favorite. I like the look on his face and the colors.

I wish on the second one that I could see the apple symbol more clearly. The first one...I agree with the creepiness factor, but I love how the apple symbol jumps out at me.
