She's 80

Two weekends ago, my Granny, the matriarch, her highness, turned the big 80! Almost my whole mom's side of the family gathered in Marshalltown, IA to celebrate. We all joke about it being some crazy drama whenever we get together and well, we have good reason too, considering our track record. However, this turned out to be a pretty lovely day. I didn't get many good shots of anything besides her, wasn't feeling my mojo with everyone else, but I did catch some good shots of her and the highlights from the day.

She is always one to pull surprises, so SHE surprised US by WALKING into her party for the first time since she fell and broke the femur on her good leg in Feb 2009. (her other leg is a wooden one she uses to beat all of us with when we are naughty, which for all my aunts and mom is often….LOL) No, but seriously it was awesome that she was up and walking!

I also caught a cool sequence of her huffing, puffing, and blowing her candles out on her lazy daisy cake (her favorite). I like the last picture in this sequence where she looks quite satisfied with getting the job done in one try. ha!

My favorite shot of the day is the first one of her laughing. I love this face she makes when she laughs hard….one of my favorites from her. She closes her eyes real tight and chuckles. I am so glad that I captured that one. Warm fuzzies! :)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRANNY!!!

  1. This is great! I will never forget her walking into the party--what a moment. And a good day.
